Joint Decision Making

WHAT?

The NPY Regional Funding and Procurement Framework was developed in 2018 and provides Aangu leaders with a real say in how Government allocates funding, who delivers services, what programs are provided and how they are delivered in the region. This approach to Joint Decision Making puts the principle of ‘subsidiarity’ into practice – whereby the authority for deciding rests as close as possible to the people affected by the decision.

HOW?

Kulintja Kutju is made up of senior and emerging Aangu leaders who come together to review ceasing grants and funding applications for the NPY region. The Group has developed tools to assess programs against Aangu-defined measures of need, impact and success. The results and recommendation of the Group are provided to the National Indigenous Australian’s Agency (NIAA) and the Minister for Indigenous Australians.

WHY?

Aangu want to have more control over the programs that affect them, their families and their communities. We believe that when Aangu are empowered to have a genuine voice in program funding and delivery, the result will be greater transparency, efficiency and effectiveness and improved outcomes for all Aangu.
