Local and Regional Governance

WHAT?

Kulintja Kutju works with Aṉangu communities to strengthen governance at both local and regional levels. This includes revitalising community councils in the APY Lands and supporting the development of the Tristate Partnership Forum, a platform that brings together Aṉangu leaders, governments, and stakeholders across SA, WA, and NT to drive coordinated action and regional investment. Our focus is on shifting power, aligning policy with Aṉangu priorities, and supporting community-led planning and decision-making.

HOW?

Through co-design, consultation, and capacity-building, we work alongside Aṉangu, government, and regional partners to support systems that empower communities. By facilitating dialogue, supporting leadership, and building the structures needed for strong governance, Kulintja Kutju plays an enabling role in reshaping how decisions are made, ensuring power rests with the people most impacted.

WHY?

Strong local and regional governance is critical to ensuring Aṉangu communities have a genuine voice in decisions that affect their lives. In the NPY Lands, where communities face cross-border and cultural complexities, Aṉangu-led governance delivers more effective policies, stronger outcomes, and long-term self-determination. Without it, development risks becoming fragmented and disconnected from community needs.
