School to Work Transition

WHAT?

The NPY Transition Support Initiative is working to make changes to the way young people are prepared for and supported in their transition from school to work or further study. Developed in 2018-19 through a co-design process with key stakeholders, this initiative is increasing young people’s exposure, experience and options by providing a structured pathway towards work upon leaving school.

HOW?

Through an integrated model of partnerships between schools, families and employers, this initiative focus’ on work readiness and supported pathways to employment through school, curriculum, work exposure and opportunities that connect education to local employment or training opportunities. We have brought together collective knowledge, best practice experiences, robust evidence and the brightest ideas for improved school to work outcomes for young people in the region.

WHY?

The transition from school to work is a critical step-recognised by Aṉangu who are worried for the future and have spoken up strongly about the lack of supports available for young people to navigate this transition successfully. We believe that through schools, employers and families working in partnership to deliver a structured and supportive transition initiative, more young Aṉangu will successfully bridge the gap from school into work or further study.
