The NPY Guide to Work Experience was developed to strengthen pathways from school to employment for Anangu students across the Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara (NPY) Region. Produced by the NPY Education Working Group with support from Empowered Communities, this manual is a practical resource designed for students, families, schools, and employers.
Recognising the lack of coordinated models and the challenges in connecting education with employment, the guide outlines a comprehensive and culturally appropriate approach to work experience. It includes clearly defined roles, responsibilities, checklists, and timelines for all stakeholders involved.
The guide supports the NPY Transition Support Model, which emphasises family involvement, school-based training, workplace readiness, and real employment pathways. It also provides strategies to overcome common barriers such as limited exposure to workplaces, communication gaps, and administrative complexity.
This resource is grounded in collaboration and the belief that successful work experience can build young people’s confidence, skills, and aspirations—ultimately contributing to stronger communities and increased Anangu employment.
